Reading for meaning

I am always on the lookout for pre-reading strategies that help my children engage with a text when reading it for the first time. I've tried a number of strategies over the year, and found some effective, some less so.

I recently came across this strategy at the "ChartChums" blog, which I follow.

It encourages children to immediately engage with what they are reading, while they are reading, by writing their responses to reading on post-its.

We tried this out today and I could clearly see the thinking occurring as students read.
